Easy & healthy Chocolate Matcha Mint Cups for dessert stacked in a pile.

Calling all chocolate lovers! I’m sharing my favorite new hormone-balancing dessert recipe for you to try: chocolate cups filled with fresh mint & matcha!

These Chocolate Mint Matcha Cups are the perfect solution for satisfying your sweet tooth with a healthier dessert. Made with wholesome, simple ingredients and free from gluten, dairy, soy, and refined sugar, this recipe is ideal to enjoy when you’re craving something sweet.

In just a few simple steps, you can whip up a batch of these delicious cups featuring a rich dark chocolate base and a creamy matcha + mint + coconut butter filling. Not only are they easy to make, but they are also STUNNING with a gorgeous green inside, making them a perfect dessert to share with friends and family.

Why is it a hormone-balancing dessert?

As someone with PCOS, I’m always keeping my hormones in mind. I included fresh spearmint and peppermint in the filling of these chocolate cups because of their benefits for PCOS and hormones:

  • can reduce blood sugar levels
  • can reduce testosterone (this can help reduce acne in women with PCOS)
  • can improve PCOS hair loss
  • can help reduce stress
  • can increase hormones necessary for ovulation
  • can reduce ovarian cysts

The benefits of spearmint on PCOS have been studied more than peppermint.

I personally try to drink 1-2 cups of spearmint tea daily, especially during my follicular phase (pre-ovulation) to help reduce rising testosterone that can make my skin break out.

Simple Ingredients

  • Dark chocolate (look for one with minimal ingredients)
  • Coconut oil
  • Coconut butter
  • Vanilla extract
  • Matcha powder (up to 15% off and free frother)
  • Fresh spearmint & peppermint (we like to grow our own spearmint)
  • Maple syrup

What equipment do I need?

  • Muffin tin
  • Baking cups
  • Food processor
  • Spatula
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutter

How to make Chocolate Mint Matcha Cups

To make these delicious dessert cups, you’ll start by mixing the filling in a food processor. It’s a combination of coconut butter, fresh mint, matcha, vanilla extract, and maple syrup.

After you create the filling, you’ll roll it out in parchment paper and cut small circles. I used a mini cookie cutter, but they don’t have to be exact.

You’ll melt the chocolate and coconut oil together, either in the microwave (in increments of 30 seconds) or in a double boiler.

Chocolate Mint Matcha Dessert Cups FAQS:

Is matcha healthy?

Matcha has many health benefits. It’s high in chlorophyll which is anti-inflammatory and can help support detoxification. It’s also has cancer-fighting antioxidants and can help reduce cell damage (linked to anti-aging). Matcha has been linked to improving memory and cognitive function.

Does it matter what type of matcha I use?

Yes, high-quality matcha tastes so much better. I prefer ceremonial-grade matcha because it’s naturally sweet and nutty, while other matcha can be bitter.

What type of chocolate should I use?

I recommend using a simple dark chocolate that doesn’t have fillers. My favorite brand is Hu because it is soy-free and they use coconut sugar, a lower glycemic index sweetener.

Where can I get coconut butter?

You can find it on Amazon or at most healthy grocery stores like Whole Foods or Thrive Market, or you can make your own by churning shredded coconut in a food processor.

How do I store these chocolate cups?

I like to store mine in the freezer, but you can also keep them in the fridge. If you keep them at room temperature, they will begin to melt.

Are these a good dessert option if I have PCOS?

These chocolate cups are a good option for PCOS because they contain spearmint, the added sugar is lower on the glycemic index, and they contain healthy fat. However, it’s important with PCOS to eat all sweets in moderation.
